TOURISM

The representation of tourism and hotel companies is one of our main areas of activity.

The legal framework of this area consists mainly of European Union legislation or other international conventions focusing on customer protection (tourist, passenger, etc.). The relationships between the main players in tourism 'production' i.e. between foreign tour operators and Greek hoteliers are still unregulated from a legislative scope. To a certain extent the market achieves its self-regulation. However, reality has highlighted serious problems, such as the high concentration in the tourism market (tour operators with a very large market share worldwide), or, recently, the adjustment of contracts due to force majeure (COVID-19).

Many Greek hotel companies are suffocating due to high borrowing and high interest rates, years of delays on the part of the Greek Government in the payment of approved grants, downward price compression, which is de facto imposed by tour operators as well as by extraordinary bankruptcies from time to time of major tour operators abroad (e.g. Thomas Cook, 2018).

Last, they often face a non-friendly treatment by the Greek State (a country with sea tourist destinations) with respect to the basic, and of course non-exclusive, use of the seashore and the coast and their permits.
