ENERGY

We represent private companies in the field of the production of alternative forms of electric energy (E/E). In this context we have handled their judicial and out-of-court affairs (e.g. financing, licensing, etc., communications with banks and the State).

The institutional framework of the energy market in Greece is gradually being modernized, but the transition from the state monopoly on the production, distribution and disposal of the E/E to the -according to EU principles- 'liberalisation' of the market (in conjunction with the demand for more environmentally friendly E/E production) creates serious legal and economic issues which sometimes jeopardize the corporate provision of this asset nowadays characterized as an essential social-economic-basic necessity. The large deficit in the recent Energa case has shown how delicate the balance of this market is and what the collateral damage and consequences may be from a non-timely regulation. The newly established Energy Exchange still needs a long way to go in order to operate according to its purpose (rationalization of the formation of the price of E/E) while highlighting the problem of the viability of the still publicly controlled PPC, which still holds the lion's share in the relevant market. Last, the specificity of the country due to the many small and non-interconnected islands, tourist and non-tourist, imposes different and flexible institutional "a la carte" solutions, in order to enhance the environmentally friendly autonomous local production and storage of E/E and the decarbonisation of the energy system.
