CAPITAL MARKETS – PRIVATE INVESTMENTS

In undeveloped or developing Markets such as Greece and Cyprus, the participation in the capital markets and the capital investment in general require a very careful planning, also from a legal point of view. There is a legislative framework - basically coming from the European Union (e.g. MiFiD I, II) -, although its interpretation, application and implementation are lagging behind, similar to the supervision of the investment scenery. We have successfully handled before Greek, Cypriot and European courts many cases of investors in Greece and Cyprus who have seen their savings – investments disappear over the last decade. The lack of information, the lack of supervision and the role of the State (in Greece) as an over-indebted debtor are some of the causes of this phenomenon which has certainly contributed to the reduction of the international credibility of Greece and Cyprus as investment destinations. We are anticipating with strong interest the process and decisions of the International Investment Arbitration in which we have also participated, with regard to cases of partial or total loss of deposits in Cypriot banks.
